Box Study
-
This pair of boxes was inspired by Matt Kinney's work and book 52 Boxes in 52 Weeks. It was an early exercise for me in the precise nature of box-making. Viewed at such a close range, every flaw on a small project like this becomes obvious. All my miters had to be tight, every surface needed to be blemish-free, and the mitered liners had to be friction-fit. Every design decision was highly considered, from the size of the openings to the choice of materials and making the grain wrap around all four corners to the placement of the beautiful “defect” on the lid.
